Power of
Place: Planning and Preservation
Campbell’s Resort and Conference Center
April 30 – May 1, 2008
Chelan, Washington
The Washington Trust for Historic Preservation and the Planning
Association of Washington are teaming up to present a statewide historic
preservation and planning conference that will feature outstanding
interdisciplinary educational sessions and a unique opportunity for
planners and preservationists from around the State of Washington to
share challenges, strategies and experiences. With the Power
of Place as the conference theme,
educational tracks will focus on the tools used by planners and
preservationists alike to encourage and sustain practices leading to the
development of unique places across Washington. Planned session topics
include: the challenges of preserving historic bridges, preserving
heritage barns, extending Transfer of Development Rights incentive
programs to rural areas, design strategies for appropriate neighborhood
infill projects, and a planning short course, as well as others.
In
addition to educational sessions, several field sessions will enable
conference participants to become familiar with the cultural resources
of Chelan and the surrounding area, including the National
Register-listed Ruby Theatre and the 1897 St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church,
a log-constructed structure designed by noted Spokane architect Kirtland
Cutter.
