Historic Properties List

Nomination Process & Criteria

Every year, many historic properties across the state of Washington are threatened by demolition or neglect.

Collectively, these properties contribute to the quality of life we enjoy and shape the daily experiences of living in small towns, large cities and rural countryside across the state. It is an understatement to say that our historic resources help to paint a distinct Washington portrait, and it is certainly no overstatement to conclude that their loss would leave large gaps in that canvas.

The Washington Trust for Historic Preservation has, since 1992, maintained a Most Endangered Historic Properties List in our state. Bringing attention to threatened buildings, sites and places has raised awareness in communities statewide, and resulted in many success stories.

The Washington Trust is now accepting nominations to the 2008 Most Endangered Historic Properties List.  The list will be announced at a press conference in May 2008 as part of the Trust's Preservation Month activities.  Download a nomination form (Microsoft Word File) and learn more about the process and criteria for inclusion on the list.

Use the Washington State map to locate properties that are currently listed or review the current list and the watch list to learn more about the history and status of these endangered landmarks. You can also review past sites listed on the Most Endangered Historic Properties lists and learn about their outcome.
